Nestled in the serene surroundings of Levi village in Sirkka, Finland, King Crab House offers an extraordinary culinary journey into the depths of Nordic seafood cuisine. Located at Mariankkuja 6, this eatery embodies the essence of Finnish hospitality, making it a must-visit for any food connoisseur.
Although the restaurant was virtually empty, the ambiance was admittedly inviting. Warm lights and rustic decor greeted us, creating a cosy atmosphere that felt both authentic and contemporary. The staff were genuinely cordial, providing seamless service throughout our visit while also offering expert advice on the menu.
Our dining experience began with ‘Iso Risotto’ and ‘Rapukeitto,’ a crab soup that proved to be very nice. The risotto was incredibly creamy, with each grain of rice perfectly cooked and infused with some complex flavours. The crab soup was rich and indulgent, with generous chunks of fresh crab meat that melted in the mouth.
We then tried the ‘Iso Rapukeitto’ and ‘Pieni Risotto,’ larger and smaller versions of our initial choices, respectively. These dishes maintained the high culinary standard set by our first courses, delighting our palates anew.
The ‘150g KC+kookos’ was an unexpected but splendid journey of textures and tastes, with the crab and coconut pairing surprisingly well together. It was an inventive dish that showcased the chef’s skill in fusing traditional and exotic ingredients.
The ‘Paahdetut perunat’ (roasted potatoes) and ‘Lisukesalaatti’ (side salad) served as exceptional accompaniments, enhancing the main courses without overshadowing them. Each element was prepared to perfection: the potatoes were crisp on the outside yet fluffy within, and the salad was fresh and vibrant, with a dressing that complemented rather than overwhelmed.
The ‘Manteli Kakku’ (almond cake) was the grand finale of our meal. Delicate yet flavourful, the cake was a harmonious blend of textures that was delightfully complemented by a well-made cappuccino.
To wash down our sumptuous feast, we chose ‘Limu Plo,’ a refreshing citrus drink that was the ideal palate cleanser, balancing out the richness of the dishes.
All in all, King Crab House is a celebration of Finnish seafood at its finest. With its exquisite cuisine, attentive staff, and inviting ambiance, it stands as a worthwhile place to eat at in the heart of Levi. Whether you’re a local or a traveller seeking an unforgettable dining experience, King Crab House should unquestionably be on your list.
