Hidden away from view on Cherry Hinton Road in Cambridge, NapolEAT offers an Italian dining experience inside the Sorrento Hotel on Cherry Hinton Road CB1 7AN. On an evening visit, my co-reviewer Beck and I checked it out.
There is an impressive wood-fired pizza oven to be seen to the left when you enter the dining area. We were shown to a seat and started with a diet cola, while tap water was also provided at no extra charge.
The table service was fairly prompt and so we went straight to mains. We both chose the tagliatelle bolognese, a traditional Italian favourite. The pasta seemed to be well-cooked, and the sauce had a rich, hearty flavour. A well-balanced mix of herbs and spices gave it a satisfying depth.
To accompany the mains, we opted for a side of garlic bread and a portion of broccoli. The garlic bread was served warm and complemented the main mean, while the broccoli appeared to be fresh, helping to balance out the flavour of the pasta.
The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and a 12.5% service charge was added to our total, bringing it to £43.76. This was a really reasonable price for the quality of the food and service we received. The optional service charge felt well-deserved, as the staff made our visit comfortable and enjoyable.
Overall, NapolEAT provides a decent setting for a casual Italian meal. While a bit hard to spot from the main road as it’s inside the hotel, it’s turned out to be a great spot for Italian flavours in a relaxed atmosphere, and I’d certainly recommend it for a meal out in this part of Cambridge.
