Restaurant Review: Pizza Pilgrims, Cambridge

During a recent visit to Cambridge city centre, Beck and myself from the review team decided to try out Pizza Pilgrims at 59 Sidney Street. If you don’t know Cambridge, it’s located on a busy corner right in the middle of town.

As we entered, it was a relaxed and inviting atmosphere that awaited. Looking at the menu, it’s clear that these pizzas are not the standard types that you find in most other places. It seems that PP has more of an artisanal approach to Italian cuisine.

The meal began with an Amalfi Lemonade, a refreshing start that balanced zestiness with just the right amount of sweetness.

As I said, we soon found that these are not your usual pizzas – the toppings are out of the ordinary and that’s likely what makes it stand out from the pizza crowd.

For the main course, we opted for two pizzas (as you might expect)! A classic Margherita and the Fiorentina, both topped with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The Margherita had a beautifully simple flavour, enhanced by the richness of its tomato base and the creaminess of mozzarella.

The Fiorentina, with added mushrooms and olives, was a flavourful experience, hitting the perfect balance of earthy and tangy notes that elevated the pizza without really overwhelming it.

The staff were attentive and efficient, adding a 12.5% service charge to our total. This seemed well-deserved enough given the warm and prompt service. Overall, the dining experience at Pizza Pilgrims was enjoyable and offered excellent value for the total cost of £36.17, including the service. Not bad.

We’d recommend Pizza Pilgrims to anyone craving a quality slice in Cambridge. One of the advantages of making the pilgrimage to their location is that it’s ideal for people watching – or maybe it’s like being in a goldfish bowl!

For those who want to recreate the magic at home, they also offer pizza kits available on their website – a perfect touch for pizza enthusiasts.
